Last night was my son’s first night sleeping in his crib in his own room! He usually sleeps in the pack n play by my bed. But he has been doing so well and sleeping through the night, I decided to give it a try!
And yes, the above picture does not show him sleeping in the crib. He was sleeping, it was dark, and I was NOT going to turn on the light and wake him up. 😉
Really he did sooo well! I put on his PJ’s, changed his diaper and fed him and then put him right to sleep. When I layed him down He picked up his head to look at me and then layed it right back down and went to sleep. I covered him with a blanket, (yes, I know what the recommendations are) and tiptoed out. I also had his sound machine running and the monitor base switched on before I left the room.
He slept from about 1:00 in the morning to about 8:30. That’s really good for a three month old! After being up and around in the morning a little he took a nap, too.
The worst part about him sleeping in his own room was me! I was terrified I wasn’t going to hear him and I was nervous because I couldn’t see him. I set up the monitor right next to my bed and cranked it all the way up. But after checking on him 800 times I finally went to sleep. I also slept better because I didn’t have to leave the bathroom light on and I CAN’T STAND light while I am sleeping!
One of the reasons it went so well is because I have been getting him accustomed to his crib and he likes it a lot, now! The first time I put him in it he freaked out! So before you try letting them sleep there all night, try letting them take naps first. That way it at least seems familiar. I also would let him do his tummy time in the crib and that helped, too!
So that’s how Reed’s first night went! Reed is a super laid back baby so that is one reason I think he did so well. Let’s see if this sticks! I’ll post an update later on whether or not he is still sleeping in his crib. 😉
What did you do to make the transition?
