Want to hear about another obsession of mine? $1.50 metallic spray paint. And chalkboards. This DIY project is both!
I got this silver spray paint at the Dollar General by my house.
It is this cool metallic spray paints that comes in several different colors. The paint coats everything AWESOME too!
These hooks used to be brass gold until I spray painted them:
So I took two frames I had leftover from another project. They were black but I wanted them to contrast with the chalkboard. So I spray painted them silver.
Then I took the glass part of the frame. To create the chalkboard I bought a $1 roll of chalkboard contact paper also from my Dollar General. (I used 11 x 14 in frames for this project and I did two, so I did use two rolls of contact paper)
Lay the glass down on the contact paper and draw pencil lines around it to trace the shape. Cut out the piece and very carefully, a little bit at a time, stick down the contact paper while smoothing out all the bubble. Don’t pull the whole backing of and try and stick the whole thing at once. Just carefully peel back little bits of the backing at a time in order to get a very smooth application.
If you are worried about getting it perfect, you could always cut an oversized piece and apply it and then trim of the excess.
Put the frames back together and, Volia! You have your own chalkboard wall hanging! Here is how mine turned out:
I turned them into little chore charts for myself. 😊 I am hanging them up in my office area to remind myself. I’m pretty happy with how they turned out, and it was so easy to make. The great part is you could do this with any size frame! They also sell chalkboard spray paint (yes, more spray paint 😜) at Lowes if you wanted to do a really big frame. You could jus spray it over the glass.
There you have it! DIY chalkboard wall signs. 😊 What would you make yours for?
Until next time,
